Success for Sinotruk at Big 5 Construct
Sinotruk International, a global leader in commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturing, made a strong statement at Big 5 Construct South Africa 2025, held at Johannesburg’s Gallagher Convention Centre in June.
The company’s exhibition stand attracted significant attention from industry professionals, showcasing Sinotruk’s commitment to the South African and broader African markets. Speaking to Michael Man, country manager for South Africa, it was clear that the event aligned perfectly with Sinotruk’s strategic ambitions.
“We participated in Big 5 Construct South Africa to strengthen our presence in the South African and African markets, engage with key industry stakeholders, and demonstrate our advanced CVs tailored for the region’s construction and transport needs,” he explained. “South Africa is a strategic hub for African logistics and infrastructure development, making this exhibition an ideal platform to connect with customers and partners.”
At the exhibition, Sinotruk presented a selection of key models chosen specifically for local needs. “We highlighted our Sitrak long-haul trucks, Howo dump trucks, and Howo water tanks, which are engineered for durability, fuel efficiency, and high performance under Africa’s challenging conditions,” Man said. “These models were carefully selected to align with South Africa’s demand for reliable, cost-effective solutions in mining, construction, and long-haul transport.”
According to Man, the response from visitors exceeded expectations. “The feedback was overwhelmingly positive – clients and industry professionals were impressed by our competitive pricing, robust engineering, and strong aftersales support,” he noted. “Many potential customers showed keen interest in our fuel-efficient, low-maintenance trucks, particularly for large-scale infrastructure projects.”
Looking ahead, Sinotruk sees substantial opportunities in the African market. “Africa’s growing infrastructure projects, mining expansions, and increasing intra-regional trade present major opportunities,” said Man. “South Africa, in particular, drives demand for heavy-duty trucks, and we aim to expand our footprint by offering durable, high-value solutions that meet local operational challenges.”

A key highlight of Sinotruk’s stand was the debut of their latest technologies, as related by Man: “We showcased our new Euro 5-compliant engines and smart logistics solutions, which emphasise fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The star attraction was our Sitrak G7H tractor unit – designed for long-distance haulage – which drew significant attention for its advanced features.”
Sinotruk is also focused on delivering exceptional support to South African customers. “We are committed to providing local customer support through dedicated service centres, readily available spare parts, and 24/7 technical assistance,” he emphasised. “We are actively expanding our dealer network to ensure prompt maintenance and minimise downtime for our clients.”
Feedback from local partners was equally encouraging. “Our partners appreciated our competitive pricing and our trucks’ adaptability to African conditions,” Man said. “Many requested financing options and longer warranty periods, which we are actively considering to enhance our market appeal.”
On the topic of sustainability, he reaffirmed Sinotruk’s commitment to greener solutions. “Sustainability is a priority for us – our newer models incorporate low-emission engines, fuel-saving technologies, and lightweight materials to reduce environmental impact while maintaining top performance,” he said. “We are aligned with global trends towards greener transport solutions and will introduce our electric light-duty truck before the end of this year.”
Reflecting on market trends, Man noted the rising demand for fuel-efficient trucks, fleet modernisation, and the affordability of Chinese brands, adding: “The ongoing construction boom and growth in port logistics also present significant opportunities for heavy-duty and specialised vehicles.”
Looking to the future, Sinotruk has ambitious plans for South Africa. “In the short term, we aim to increase market share through local partnerships and tailored financing solutions,” Man revealed. “Over the longer term, we plan to invest in local assembly operations and expand our service network to establish Sinotruk as a leading CV provider in South Africa.”
