Want to drive a Lotus? Become a tourist cop in Dubai
While most of us concentrate on keeping our humble little runarounds out of the potholes, the Dubai Tourist Police are zipping around in something a little more… exhilarating. Say hello to the Lotus Emeya-S. This fully electric supercar just joined the Dubai Police patrol fleet – because apparently, keeping the peace is best done at 250km/h.
The shiny new Emeya-S was unveiled at the World Police Summit at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where a group of high-ranking officers gathered – not to chase suspects, but to admire this gleaming example of horsepower meets high-voltage.
Forget your standard police cruiser; this one goes from 0 to 100 in 4.2 seconds, has a range of 600km per charge, and comes with autonomous driving tech. It’s not just a car; it’s a polite, sustainable rocket ship in uniform.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs (and now probably the envy of every gearhead in law enforcement), led the launch with a full squad of dignitaries. They listened to a briefing that was part science lesson, part Top Gear episode, all while the Emeya glistened under the event lights like it knew it was cooler than all of the dignitaries.
The car isn’t just for show – it’s set to patrol hotspots like the Burj Khalifa, Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, and JBR. In other words, Dubai’s most Instagrammable backdrops are about to get a new co-star. And yes, it’s still technically a police vehicle, so don’t get any ideas about trying to outrun it on a rental scooter.
According to Dubai Police, this move is all about “visibility, sustainability, and engagement”. Translation: it looks good, it’s green, and tourists love it.
Ramzi Al Atat, the regional marketing and PR director at Lotus, seemed thrilled too. “We’re honoured,” he said, likely while resisting the urge to do a victory lap around the Trade Centre. This marks the second Lotus to join the Dubai Police lineup after the Eletre R, proving that the department is slowly becoming the world’s most stylish electric car showroom with sirens.
The ceremony wrapped up with a plaque presentation and the kind of group photo that looks less like a police summit and more like a high-end car launch – which, in fairness, it kind of was.
So, next time you see flashing lights in your rearview mirror in Dubai, don’t be surprised if it’s coming from the sleek headlights of a Lotus Emeya-S. And if you’ve ever dreamt of driving one, maybe it’s time to consider a career in tourism policing – the dress code includes smart uniforms, community engagement, and, apparently, a supercar.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some drive a Lotus.
