Foton brings Auman 560 to Truck Test 2026
Foton has entered Truck Test 2026! It will bring two Auman 560s to South Africaโs biggest independent truck evaluation. Powered by a Cummins engine matched to a ZF transmission, the Auman 560 is designed with productivity, driver comfort and uptime firmly in mind.
At the heart of the Auman 560 is a 560-hp Cummins engine designed to deliver strong torque across the operating range, including on steep gradients, under heavy loads and over long-distance routes.
The engine is paired with a ZF automated manual transmission (AMT). Together, the two form what Foton calls its Super Powertrain, with the transmission managing gear selection and shifting to support fuel efficiency and driveability.
For a long-haul truck, those characteristics matter. Smooth gear changes can reduce driver workload while efficient power delivery can help limit unnecessary fuel use and drivetrain wear. The combination will be tested under real-world conditions during Truck Test 2026.
Range and productivity
The Auman 560 uses a dual fuel tank configuration, giving operators greater range between refuelling stops. On long-distance routes, this can reduce unplanned downtime and provide more flexibility around fuel stops.
Rear axle air suspension is fitted to improve ride quality and stability. The system can also help protect cargo and support handling on varying road surfaces.
Driver comfort has also received attention. An air-suspended driverโs seat is intended to reduce vibration over long distances, an important consideration for fatigue management during extended operating hours.
Local support and ownership
Foton says the Auman 560 has been developed to European engineering standards, but its South African proposition also depends heavily on local support.
The truck is backed by a four-year or 800,000-km vehicle warranty. A local parts warehouse is intended to improve access to replacement components, while the companyโs dealer network provides servicing, technical support and parts availability.
Foton is also expanding its nationwide dealer footprint. For long-haul fleets, access to trained technicians and parts can determine how quickly a vehicle returns safely to service.
Local assembly is another part of the package. For operators, however, the practical value will be measured less by where the truck is assembled and more by how quickly parts, servicing and technical assistance can be delivered when the vehicle is earning its keep on the road.
A test of real-world performance
Truck Test 2026 will provide a useful opportunity to assess how the Auman 560 performs alongside rival extra-heavy trucks under the same operating conditions.
The event is designed to compare vehicles on factors that matter to fleets, including fuel consumption, speed and overall productivity. For Foton, it offers the chance to demonstrate whether the Auman 560โs powertrain, range, ride comfort and support proposition translate into measurable performance.
For fleet operators, those results will matter more than brochure claims.
South African long-haul transport is demanding. Vehicles must cope with heavy loads, long distances, steep gradients, varying road conditions and pressure to minimise downtime. At the same time, operators are under constant pressure to manage fuel, maintenance and driver-related costs.
Those pressures make efficiency increasingly important, but no single specification tells the whole story. A truck must deliver consistently across the route, while keeping the driver comfortable and giving the operator confidence that support will be available when required.
That makes Truck Test a useful proving ground. The Auman 560 arrives with a strong specification on paper. The real question is how effectively that specification performs when subjected to the realities of South African freight transport. That answer will come on the road.
