Engen refuels Truck Test 2022

Engen refuels Truck Test 2022

Engen is continuing its fuel sponsorship of Truck Test, with all participating trucks running on Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm with Pro-Drive. Why does Engen continue to support Truck Test and what are the benefits of Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm with Pro-Drive? These were amongst the questions we put to South Africa’s leading oil company.

This year’s event starts at Engen Blockhouse and on Day One of the test – June 1 – the trucks travel to the Engen Highway Junction Truck Stop, then onward to the Engen Trafford Road Truck Stop. The following day, they return to Engen Highway Junction Truck Stop before making their way back to Engen Blockhouse.

What value does Engen see in the Truck Test programme?

The annual Truck Test event is all about finding the best-in-class trucks regarding fuel efficiency and productivity, in a diverse field of formidable contenders. When the results are published at the end of the test, it affords transport companies a clear picture of the performance of the tested vehicles under real-world conditions. This can assist them to make more informed buying choices.

As a major supplier of fuels and lubricants to the transport sector, Engen has once again partnered with FOCUS magazine as this year’s Truck Test Platinum Sponsor. This demonstrates our commitment as a proud supporter of this initiative over the years.

Truck Test 2022 gives Engen the opportunity to promote Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm with Pro-Drive technology, which will once again be used by all participating trucks.

Engen, in addition to being a major supplier to the sector, is also one of the few large petroleum marketers that still operates its own fleet of trucks. Being a buyer of trucks, Truck Test also gives Engen further insight from a buyer’s perspective.

Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm is formulated with Pro-Drive. What does this mean for vehicle drivers and operators?

Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm with Pro-Drive is designed based on drivers’ needs, taking into account today’s driving conditions and anticipating future engine technology. It has also been developed by our fuel experts, leveraging knowledge gained from our involvement with the Petronas De Rooy Iveco Dakar Rally Team to deliver a smoother drive, more responsive engine performance, and enhanced fuel efficiency proven via vehicle testing.

Our most advanced, unique combustion improver technology delivers 2% more power for a smoother drive. It is more responsive during stop-go, cruising, and heavy loads, with 4% better acceleration. The unique dual detergent for deep cleaning across old and modern diesel engines enables distances covered to be extended by up to 3%.

The new active ingredient in the formulation is proven to make your vehicle feel lighter at the touch of the pedal, and this is the first ever fuel in Africa with its unique combination of combustion and detergent system technology.

Engen was the first petroleum company in South Africa to market AdBlue. 2016 saw the inclusion of AdBlue in the Truck Test, with consumption monitored for interest. What is AdBlue and what has happened since its introduction in 2016?

Most modern diesel-powered vehicles built after 2006 use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to inject AdBlue into the vehicle’s exhaust gases. When AdBlue combines with exhaust emissions, it breaks down the harmful nitrogen oxides in the diesel exhaust and produces harmless nitrogen and oxygen.

AdBlue was a natural fit for Engen’s product offerings of Engen Dynamic Diesel 50ppm and Engen Low-SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous & Sulphur) lubricants.

Today, the demand for AdBlue is significantly greater, as more and more Euro-5 and Euro-6 vehicles are operating on our roads. Engen AdBlue trades under the name Air1® and is supplied to most major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in South Africa.

It is important to note that AdBlue is a prerequisite for vehicles fitted with an SCR unit. But it doesn’t stop there: high-sulphur fuel and high-SAPS lubricants can affect the efficiency of the SCR unit, so it is important to use low-sulphur diesel and low-SAPS lubricants like Dynamic Diesel 50ppm and PETRONAS Urania 5000 LS.

Engen sees itself as a friend of the transport sector. Why is that?

At Engen, we understand that the transport sector plays an important role in the South African economy. Without trucks on our roads, the country stops moving! The trucking and transport sector is therefore a key focus sector for Engen.

With this in mind, we are ideally positioned to service this sector with:

  • Our market-leading network of service stations and truck stops, where we cater for the specific needs of truckers.
  • The Engen Diesel Club and eFuel Tag system, which provides convenient cashless refuelling at our network of Truck Stops and service stations. This is a holistic fuel-management and control solution, specifically designed to make refuelling simpler, more convenient, and more cost-effective.
  • An extensive product portfolio that caters for the needs of the modern fleet. It’s comforting to know that, should your new vehicle run out of AdBlue, you can now get a top-up at Engen.
  • The Annual Engen Driver Wellness initiative, which aims to improve occupational health and wellness among long-distance truck drivers. Engen Driver Wellness provides free voluntary health checks to truck drivers, including advice on healthy lifestyle choices and consultations where necessary. This not only improves their health through increased awareness, but is another way of keeping our roads safe.

Engen is excited to continue our sponsorship of the Truck Test event, as we remain committed to being a solutions partner to the transport sector.
