New Caravelle back in SA as plug-in hybrid

The all-new Caravelle eHybrid with 4MOTION is finally coming to South African roads. This much-loved Caravelle boasts up to 95km of pure electric range.

The versatile new Caravelle has been reimagined for the way South Africans live, work and travel. Part electric for the daily commute, part petrol for the open road, this plug-in hybrid can provide a combined power of 180kW with 4MOTION and also offers intelligent all-wheel drive and a spacious seven-seat interior that can adjust to whatever life throws at you.

At the heart of the new Caravelle is a 19.7-kWh, high-voltage, lithium-ion e-battery that can recover from 10 to 80% in approximately 26 minutes with DC power. For daily drivers simply navigating short school or work commutes, most trips can be completed without using a drop of fuel.

Drive confidently with 4MOTION

The Caravelle’s electric all-wheel drive is a serious capability upgrade. The two electric motors work together with a highly efficient 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine to produce a total of 180kW with 4MOTION. Whether navigating wet mountain passes or uneven dirt roads, the four selectable driving profiles – Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual – ensure the Caravelle is always optimally configured.

An unmistakable exterior

The reintroduction of this icon comes with a choice of three two-tone and one deep black pearl effect paint options. The classic two-tone finish options are underscored by a chrome band that runs across the centre. The impressive IQ.Light LED matrix headlights can selectively switch off individual light beams when oncoming traffic is detected to avoid dazzling approaching drivers. The dynamic cornering light, meanwhile, can illuminate the bend even before you turn, thanks to its camera and radar systems.

An interior full of options

Inside, the Caravelle seats up to seven across a flexible modular layout. Rear seats slide, recline and remove to create up to 4.1 m³ of cargo space. There is also an option to create a face-to-face layout with the second row shifted to face rearwards. An innovative multifunction table can be repositioned between any seating row, making the cabin equally productive and sociable.

Engineered for convenience and comfort

The Digital Cockpit pairs a 10-inch instrument display with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard, incorporating full smartphone integration. A standout innovation is the standard-fit electric stationary air conditioning. This feature allows this plug-in hybrid to cool, ventilate or heat its cabin while charging, parked or camping – all without combustion emissions. Departing on a cold highveld morning? The interior is already at your preferred temperature before you’ve buckled in.
