Revealed: the tale of Goldilocks and the three trucks!
Revealed: the tale of Goldilocks and the three trucks!
South African truck operators may not be familiar with the Big Game. But, in the United States, it’s the biggest sporting event of the year – and no, it has nothing to do with rhinos or buffalo (sorry, Cyril). The Big Game is what Americans call the Super Bowl, their annual championship in American football (it took place on 9 February this year). But for many people, the real action happens off the field – in the ads. These commercials are big-budget, high-profile, and often more entertaining than the game itself.
This year, Ram Trucks decided to have a bit of fun with their ad. Instead of going for the usual dramatic music and slow-motion shots of a truck splashing through mud, they enlisted Hollywood actor Glen Powell (from Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters) and turned a beloved fairytale into a turbocharged adventure.
Forget porridge – this Goldilocks prefers horsepower
We all know the story: Goldilocks stumbles into a house, tests out some porridge, chairs, and beds, and finds the ones that are “just right”. Well, Ram’s version ditches the porridge for bakkies (which all those fabulous folks living in Trumpland call “pickup trucks”).
In this high-octane retelling, Powell plays “Uncle Glen”, telling his twin niece and nephew a bedtime story. But instead of bowls of porridge, there are trucks to test-drive, and instead of a quiet cottage in the woods, we get fire-breathing dragons, exploding volcanoes, and dramatic stunt jumps.
The three trucks in question?
- The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger – A plug-in hybrid that gives drivers the best of both worlds: electric when needed, petrol when necessary.
- The Ram 2500 Rebel – A heavy-duty beast, perfect for towing, hauling, and, in this case, dragging a barbequed dragon behind it.
- The Ram 1500 RHO – The high-performance off-road model, ideal for jumping over active volcanoes (because why not?)
Powell gets behind the wheel of each one, showing off their features in the most ridiculous ways possible. He chainsaw-carves a masterpiece, defeats a dragon, and flies over a lava-spewing mountain, all while looking effortlessly cool. In the end, he is snapped back to reality by the kids, who – like any audience watching a Big Game ad – demand more action.

A blockbuster commercial with a Hollywood touch
If the ad feels like an action movie, that’s because it was directed by David Leitch, the filmmaker behind John Wick, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train. With explosions, high-flying stunts, and larger-than-life special effects, it’s clear this was no ordinary truck commercial.
And let’s not forget the soundtrack – the entire ad is set to Van Halen’s rock classic, “Panama”, because nothing says adventure and horsepower quite like 80s rock anthems.
Why all the fuss?
But why all the fuss? For US truck buyers, this commercial is all about freedom of choice: do you go for eco-friendly electric, traditional petrol, or a mix of both? Ram’s message is simple: pick the bakkie that’s “just right” for you.
And for the rest of us, it’s just a wildly entertaining way to see what’s new in the world of trucks. If you’ve ever wished that truck ads were a little less serious and a little more fun, this one’s for you.
Oh, and if you really love the ad, Ram is selling merchandise inspired by it – everything from stuffed dragons and bear plushies to dragon wing hot sauce. Because if you’re going to sell trucks, you might as well have some fun doing it.
The only question left is: which truck would Goldilocks choose?
