New VW Amarok Single Cab now available

From the end of May, South Africans will be able to purchase the new Amarok Single Cab from Volkswagen dealers.

Retail of the Volkswagen Amarok Double Cab range started in South Africa on 18 March 2023 and in just two months, 710 units had already been sold in the local market.

β€œWe are pleased to be extending the new Amarok range to include the Single Cab, the workhorse of the range,” says Mark Handley, head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. β€œThe Amarok Single Cab is a key model for increasing our volumes and market share in the rental and corporate segments, as well as supporting our sub-Saharan Africa growth plan by retailing in key African markets.”

The new Volkswagen Amarok, which was designed in Germany and Australia, will be built in South Africa. β€œAs Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, we are proud that the new Amarok range – which consists of the single and double cab derivatives – will be built in our country and thus support the local economy,” adds Handley.

Hey, good looking!

At 5 350 mm, the new Amarok is 96 mm longer than its predecessor. A wheelbase of 3 270 mm represents an increase of 173 mm, which provides more room, especially on the double cab’s second row of seats. The wheelbase has grown much more than the total length, which also shortens the body overhangs and results in sharper proportions and improved off-road capability thanks to better approach and departure angles. The off-road capabilities of the Amarok are enhanced by a much greater wading depth, which has been increased from 500 to 800 mm (model dependent).

The new Amarok is now unambiguously more expressive and even more impressive. The new, charismatic front section is a statement in itself, with the straight and very upright bonnet exuding Volkswagen’s unmistakable DNA. The same applies to the bars running horizontally across the radiator grille with the concisely integrated LED headlights, which come as standard on all derivatives.

The Amarok Single Cab will be available with two turbo diesel engines:

2.0 TDI 110 kW

This four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission produces 110 kW of power with maximum torque of 350 Nm. The top speed is 170 km/h, while fuel consumption is 6.9 litres/100 km.

2.0 TDI 125 kW

This four-cylinder engine with six-speed manual transmission produces 125 kW of power with maximum torque of 405 Nm. The top speed is 180 km/h. Fuel consumption on the 2.0 TDI 125 kW is 6.9 litres/100 km, while on the 2.0 TDI 125 kW with 4MOTION it is 7.1 litres/100 km.

The Amarok Single Cab 110 kW derivative comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, full-size steel spare wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, LED headlights, and driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags.

With its intuitive controls, digital cockpit and tablet-style infotainment display, the new Amarok’s interior has a high-quality, functional appearance. Interior features include Bluetooth connectivity with wireless App-Connect, a 10-inch colour touch-screen infotainment screen, an eight-inch partial active-info display for the instrument cluster, electronically foldable side mirrors, a multi-function steering wheel, and a front centre armrest.

The Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 125 kW 4×2 and Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 125 kW 4MOTION derivatives offer additional specification, including 17-inch Combra alloy wheels, rear differential lock, trailer hitch, raised suspension, and improved payload capacity of over 1.2 tonnes. The load compartment width between wheel arches is 1 227 mm in length to accommodate a standard European pallet on all new Amarok Single Cab derivatives.

The only optional feature available in the new Amarok Single Cab range is the exterior paint colour. Single cabs are available in the following exterior colours: Clear White, Midnight Black, Bright Blue, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Deep Red, Bright Beige, and Mid Blue.
