New Irizar ie truck enters production

Have you seen a better-looking truck than this? We haven’t. It’s called the Irizar ie  – and it is wowing buyers in Europe.

Take-up of the all-new Irizar ie electric truck across Europe, following successful urban field tests, has led to the Spanish coachbuilder commencing production of the innovative municipal-specified vehicle earlier than expected. Significant orders have already come in from operators in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Energy efficiency, safety, accessibility, versatility and environmental benefits are some of the most significant attributes that define this vehicle.

100% electric and silent

The Irizar ie truck is 100% electric, silent and environmentally friendly. It was developed jointly with FCC Medio Ambiente, a company that has provided urban services for more than 110 years. It meets different market trends and needs, enabling operators to circulate through cities and urban environments without generating air or noise pollution. The results? A cleaner city and a more sustainable environment for citizens.

The ie truck has a 26-tonne gross weight and a 6×2 three-axle chassis configuration. As per Irizar’s coach range, it will be equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack, with a capacity of 340 kWh. It can be speed-charged through a Combo 2 charging socket in 3,5 hours. And Irizar’s ie truck can be used in unlimited applications, both for waste collection and for urban distribution tasks.

Impressive safety credentials

Equipped with technology developed by the Irizar Group, the ie truck has electronic stability control (ESP), adaptive suspension levelling and emergency braking assistance (AEBS) for optimum safety in operation. It also integrates a camera and a front radar sensor that allow lane departure detection (LDWS).

The low cab design, with a single accessible step of 370 mm, provides a safe transit to the driver and passengers. It includes a pneumatic door that swings inwards, which makes for safer transport when faced with any obstacles in the road. Furthermore, the door includes anti-entrapment sensors, a photocell and a sensitive edge on the leaf to avoid any kind of unintended incidents during faster application. The cabin also has folding seats for the passengers, enabling an obstacle-free corridor.

One of the big advantages of the low cab is that it enables unsurpassed direct visibility thanks to the low seat position, wide frontal area, side and door windows. Particularly in this case, instead of rear-view mirrors, the unit has twin digital cameras that will project their images on the screens located within the driving position, optimising driver visibility.

Because its noise level is low, it can operate early in the morning or at night, thus reducing traffic during the hours of greatest congestion.

Without a doubt, the Irizar ie truck is one more example of the Irizar Group’s ability to adapt to market needs by providing new alternatives to cities with low-emission zones, which will contribute to sustainability and create more liveable cities.

Award-winning concept

Already an award-winning concept, the ie truck was the winner of the World Smart City Awards in the Innovative Idea category at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019. It also won the award in 2019-2020 of the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) in the Product and/or Service category for project Development of High Efficiency, Modular & Self-supporting Electric Traction Vehicular Platforms for Urban Services. And this year it has been named the Ecological Industrial Vehicle of the Year 2021 in Spain. This is an award granted by the Editec Group.
