Leading with Vision: Innovation Meets Collaboration

Leading with Vision: Innovation Meets Collaboration

On 24 October, Powerfleet’s Customer Day 2025 brought together industry leaders, fleet managers, technology partners, media and customers in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, for a full day of insights, demonstrations and dialogue on how the modern enterprise needs visibility across its entire operational footprint – from warehouse to road to port.

Under the theme “Leading with Vision: Innovation Meets Collaboration”, the event offered an inside look at how Powerfleet’s Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) capabilities are enabling companies to move beyond traditional fleet management. By combining AI-powered video intelligence and real-time sensor data, Powerfleet is helping organisations gain comprehensive operational awareness that spans both on-road assets and fixed-location operations – reshaping safety, sustainability and operational efficiency worldwide.

Setting the scene

Delegates received a warm welcome from Brendan Horan, general manager: rest of world, before Steven Sutherland, general manager: enterprise, took the stage to outline Powerfleet’s latest strategic direction and new team structures.

As an asset management company that already “leads with vision”, Sutherland noted that the challenge in the age of digitalisation is to “use visual data as a catalyst for transformation”. This transformation, he explained, extends across safety, driver behaviour and environmental performance – spanning a wide range of sectors and applications. Sutherland also underscored the pivotal role of partnerships in Powerfleet’s innovation strategy: “We provide the platform; our partners provide the power.”

By collaborating with best-in-class specialists to tackle real-world transport challenges, Powerfleet aims to build an integrated ecosystem greater than the sum of its parts – delivering end-to-end value through connected, interoperable solutions.

VisionAI and digitalisation

Next to the podium were Greg Naicker, vice president: operations, and Samantha Ferreira, senior product manager: video, who unpacked how Powerfleet is responding to customers’ top strategic priority: digitalisation.

Their presentations detailed a dual-layer approach that combines intelligent AI video monitoring with IoT technologies to power the company’s VisionAI solutions.

They highlighted Unity, Powerfleet’s intelligence platform, as a key market differentiator – merging data from AI-powered video, traditional telematics and vehicle sensors into a single, centralised dashboard. This unified operational view allows fleet and operations managers to respond quickly to risk insights and performance metrics.

The VisionAI hardware suite, adaptable for light, medium or heavy vehicles, delivers comprehensive coverage. Its advanced module, SafeGuard, analyses hundreds of data points per second to build dynamic driver risk profiles. By assessing behaviour patterns over 30- to 60-minute intervals, it can identify risky trends before incidents occur – shifting fleet safety from reactive to predictive.

Connectivity and collaboration

Vice president: product, on-site, Paul de Klerk, discussed the importance of visibility across the entire value chain – from warehouse to port – and addressed the signal interference challenges often encountered on-site.

He introduced keynote speaker Tash Botha from MTN Business, a Powerfleet partner providing private network solutions to ensure real-time, low-latency connectivity in complex operational environments. Botha illustrated how MTN has deployed private networks at two South African mines to enhance safety – for example, connecting smart helmets that geo-locate every miner underground.

MTN now offers Powerfleet’s entire enterprise portfolio – on-road vehicle monitoring, AI-powered video across vehicles and warehouse assets, facility safety monitoring, and integrated compliance and risk management tools – all connected through Unity’s single pane of glass. This partnership exemplifies the synergy between connectivity and intelligence that underpins Powerfleet’s vision.

Expanding customer value

Ryan Colyn, general manager: Africa retail, showcased how Powerfleet’s consumer solutions Matrix and Beame provide peace of mind to South African drivers and fleet managers through instant alerts, emergency assistance and stolen-vehicle recovery.

Ronel Spies, global partner operations manager, outlined new initiatives to enhance customer service, engagement and training, ensuring that the company’s innovation momentum is matched by operational excellence and support.

Partner insights and innovation ecosystem

The informative partner sessions reinforced the day’s collaborative theme, as technology partners demonstrated practical tools that extend Powerfleet’s ecosystem.

Ken Bailey of TankSafe demonstrated how his unique device prevents fuel skimming and theft directly from the tank – protecting one of the truck’s most valuable and vulnerable assets. Daimler Truck Southern Africa, he noted, has installed over 16,000 TankSafe devices on its production line since 2022.

Andrew Heath of iWantFuel explained how aggregated and optimised on-road fuel purchasing can transform a necessary operational expense into a source of working capital and tax rebates. It’s a hassle-free, cross-regional refuelling solution that harnesses “VoiceToFuel” technology to make ordering fuel and lubricants as easy as sending a voice note via WhatsApp. Over 300 refuelling sites are available on its network.

Renko Bergh of CtrlFleet showcased dynamic route optimisation and scheduling tools that ensure each vehicle in the fleet follows the safest, most economical route – cutting both fuel use and wear and tear.

Wayne Witherspoon of RnR outlined how the company’s repair-tracking platform provides rapid response for mechanical failures, tyre issues and roadside incidents, reducing downtime and improving driver security.

Pieter van Zyl of Canvas Intelligence demonstrated how custom business-intelligence dashboards can merge telematics, finance and operational data, breaking down departmental silos and revealing hidden inefficiencies such as driver clustering and excessive idling.

Each presentation reflected Powerfleet’s ecosystem-driven approach – connecting technologies and partners to create seamless, data-driven value chains.

Unity in purpose

Powerfleet’s Customer Day 2025 showcased more than technological innovation – it revealed a company and partner network aligned around a shared purpose: transforming data into intelligence that drives safer, smarter and more sustainable operations.

From AI-powered safety solutions to real-time private networks and integrated analytics, the day illustrated how visibility, connectivity and collaboration are converging to redefine the fleet ecosystem.

As the transport and logistics landscape becomes evermore complex, Powerfleet’s message was clear: Unity is not just a platform – it’s a principle. Through connected systems and collaborative partnerships, Powerfleet is leading with vision, proving that when innovation meets cooperation, the whole industry moves forward.

Unity Operations Centre Charity Drive

In the lead-up to Customer Day, Powerfleet’s senior leaders joined the Unity Operations Centre (UOC) analysts and trackers to make live customer calls as part of the UOC Charity Drive. The fundraising success exceeded expectations, with the leadership and UOC teams handling 389 customer calls over the course of the day. Through its pledge of R20 per call, Powerfleet contributed R7,780. Customers and partners proved equally committed, pledging R49,220, bringing the total to R57,000 – already surpassing the R50,000 goal. The impact deepened further when Powerfleet executives personally donated an additional R13,000, bringing the grand total to R70,000.

The funds raised will support initiatives focused on early childhood development, disability inclusion and trucker wellness – programmes introduced to Powerfleet by N3 Toll Concession (N3TC).
