Korridor: Simplifying cross-border transport

Cross-border transport is fraught with challenges. But these are eased by a company called Korridor. We find out how.

The field of cross-border transport is particularly challenging. In the past, we have written repeatedly about the delays at regional borders in Southern Africa that are costing the cross-border transport industry billions. Korridor aims to ease transport operators’ cross-border woes, as its CEO, Alistair Potgieter, explains.

Please tell us about Korridor, when it was established, and exactly what it does.

Korridor, formerly known as Inter Africa Transport Forex (IATF), was founded in 2007. We offer a financial technology platform that simplifies the complex world of en route and cross-border requirements in the logistics and transport industries.

Korridor specialises in online ordering and procurement of diesel, cash pay-outs, road tolls, border payments, parking, insurance, mechanical and electronic payments, and other value-added services. This empowers all customers to expand their operations into new territories, with more than 280 service points alongside all major routes in Zambia, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Eswatini, and Mauritius, while we continue to expand into other countries.

Your company makes the planning of journeys, cost control, and fleet management simpler and more efficient. How?

Korridor provides efficiency and transparency to transporters by centralising all payments for products and services onto a single web- and app-based platform. Korridor is able to receive a single electronic payment for all costs on a transporter’s route across multiple currencies and product types.

We continuously leverage the power of technology to drive innovative solutions, not only to expand our product and service offering, but for overall business development.

Cross-border transport is fraught with endless pitfalls. Please can you describe some of the challenges and how you overcome them?

Korridor has been on the ground for the last 15 years and through our close partnerships with transporters, suppliers, and government institutions we have developed an extensive network of service points to service transporters’ needs and solve operational challenges on their journey.

A significant challenge for transporters is the transparency of charges and the prevailing situation at various points along their route. We provide upfront visibility of costs that will be incurred en route, as well as operational support at key locations to facilitate efficient transit. In addition, Korridor provides a 24/7 service centre to ensure that our customers have direct access to support when they need it.
