Hilux on the prowl for rhino poachers

Last month, the South African Department of Environmental Affairs issued an update on its progress with the Implementation of the Integrated Strategic Management of Rhinoceros, between the period January 1 to August 30. During this time, 508 rhino were poached in South Africa, compared to 691 for the same period in 2017. Training 2 000 drivers and counting

Innovative Staffing Solutions (ISS) has invested in two trucks dedicated to truck-driver training and has used them to train more than 2 000 drivers this year. “Advanced truck-driver training is conducted by certified trainers and each driver undergoes three to four hours of training. The trainers spend one-on-one time with drivers to test their driving skills and brush up on their knowledge of road regulations,” says ISS MD, Arnoux Maré. Earlier this year, a juvenile Cape Gannet was found by an employee at Isuzu Motors South Africa’s Struandale manufacturing plant in Port Elizabeth. The weak and disorientated bird was rescued by members of the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB).
