Iveco celebrates Courier Incubator vehicle handover
Iveco South Africa has announced the handover of vehicles to The Courier Guy and Intertown Transport. This forms part of the Courier Incubator, an innovative initiative designed to empower young women and drive diversity in the courier and logistics industry.
This pioneering programme aims to promote diversity within the courier and logistics sector, underscoring Iveco’s commitment to advancing gender equality and offering substantial career opportunities in a historically male-dominated industry.
The Courier Incubator Initiative is a strategic collaboration between Iveco South Africa and the Commercial Transport Academy (CTA). It provides young women from vulnerable communities with comprehensive training, covering both soft and technical skills such as personal finance, social media awareness, defensive driving, and logistics operations. Participants gain 12 months of practical, hands-on experience in the courier and logistics industry through placements with host employers, while the use of Iveco Daily vehicles enables participants to acquire valuable driving experience. Furthermore, ongoing mentorship and support are offered to ensure a successful transition into the industry.
Reflecting on the initiative’s progress, Delray Vosloo, director of Iveco South Africa, comments: “This initiative is about more than just skills development – it’s about changing the face of the logistics industry by empowering women to take on roles that have traditionally been male-dominated. The recent handover represents a pivotal moment in our journey towards achieving this goal, and I am excited about the future we are building together.”
The Courier Guy, one of the host employers, has also expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. “Partnering with Iveco on the Courier Incubator has been a rewarding experience,” says Henry Van Dyk, head of human capital at The Courier Guy. “We’ve seen first-hand how the programme is not only equipping these young women with vital skills but also giving them the confidence to succeed in the industry. We are proud to be part of this journey and look forward to seeing the continued impact of this initiative.”
The handover event represents not only the culmination of months of dedicated work but also paves the way for the continued success of the Courier Incubator. Through the empowerment of women and the provision of essential skills and opportunities, Iveco South Africa and its partners are not only transforming lives, but also setting a new benchmark for the industry.
