Truck Test 2022 route confirmed
Truck Test 2022 route confirmed
The exact route for Truck Test 2022, which takes place from May 31 to June 2 this year, has been confirmed.
As has been the case in numerous previous years, Truck Test 2022 will take place on the N3. Engen continues as the exclusive fuel sponsor for Truck Test, so the route starts, stops, overnights, and finishes at Engen facilities.
The start and finish will be Engen Blockhouse 1 Stop North (near Meyerton, south of Johannesburg), while lunch stops will take place at Highway Junction Truck Stop. The turnaround point for the trucks is the Trafford Road Truck Stop, and we will have comfort breaks for the drivers at the Vaal 1 Stop and the Mooi River 1 Stop.
Virtually all of the major truck suppliers will participate in the event, and we are privileged to again be working with some incredible companies during Truck Test 2022:
- As mentioned, Engen will sponsor the fuel used on the test
- Afrit is sponsoring trailers
- Ctrack will sponsor the tracking devices
- Specifications and results are being compiled by TruckScience
- ADA is responsible for logistics
We would like to thank all five companies profusely. It’s great to have these leading transport industry suppliers join us at what will be THE transport event of 2022.
We will be testing extra-heavy trucks (6×4 truck tractors with a GCM greater than or equal to 50 000 kg).
Vehicles will gather at the Engen Blockhouse 1 Stop North on May 31 to be refuelled. Their tyre pressures will be checked, and a driver briefing will take place for participants.
On June 1, we will start the down run, with the route taking us down the N3 towards Durban. Our first stop is at the Heidelberg weighbridge, before we continue to Pinetown and park there overnight. On June 2, we will conduct the up run back to Johannesburg.
While the test will not be run as a competition but rather as a demonstration of the vehicles’ capabilities, the results will be studied by astute transport operators who want to make the best possible buying decisions. Fuel consumption, trip times, and productivity will be compared to theoretical results calculated on TruckScience’s Sales Tool software.
The results of the complete run will be announced on June 17 and will be published in the July issue of FOCUS on Transport & Logistics – and then we will know which trucks operators should be buying. Naturally, the results will also appear on the FOCUS website: www.focusontransport.co.za. In addition, they will feature in a television programme on dedicated motoring channel Ignition (on DSTV channel 189) in July.
