Suzuki empowers small businesses and promotes road safety

In a country where reliable and safe transport is essential for daily life, Suzuki Auto South Africa has emerged as a champion of small businesses and road safety.

A robust and efficient transport system is crucial in connecting people to jobs, schools, healthcare, and commerce. For many South Africans, access to reliable transport is a stepping stone to economic independence. Recognising this, Suzuki Auto South Africa has introduced two vehicles tailored to the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs: the Suzuki Super Carry and the Suzuki Eeco Van.

These vehicles are designed to empower business owners by offering affordable, fuel-efficient solutions for transporting goods. Starting at a competitive R182,900, the Suzuki Super Carry is a tried-and-tested workhorse with a 750-kg load capacity and a widest-in-class load box. This dependable pickup has since 2023 been joined by the versatile Suzuki Eeco Van, which boasts a secure cargo bay capable of accommodating a full-sized South African pallet. With a price tag of R212,900, the Eeco Van combines practicality with affordability, thanks to its 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and thoughtful design features like large rear and side sliding doors for easy access.

Supporting small businesses with real-world testing

Understanding the needs of its audience, Suzuki recently embarked on a unique initiative: the company offered test units of the Eeco Van to pre-selected small businesses across South Africa for a three-month trial period. This hands-on experience enables entrepreneurs to evaluate the vehicle’s real-world performance, from its spacious cargo bay to its economical running costs.

“We want our entrepreneurs to drive the Eeco; to see how much they can cram into the cargo bay and experience just how economical it is to run,” explains Brendon Carpenter, brand marketing manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

The initiative reflects Suzuki’s commitment to empowering grassroots businesses, giving them tools to succeed and grow in a challenging economic landscape.

A fresh drive for road safety

While Suzuki is helping businesses thrive, it’s also taking a proactive approach to another pressing issue: road safety. South Africa’s roads claim more than 14,000 lives annually, with a significant number of these fatalities affecting vulnerable road users aged 17 to 29.

To combat this, Suzuki has partnered with FleetMax Africa to launch DriveSMART with Suzuki, a localised road safety curriculum designed for digital platforms. The programme features a series of bite-sized videos covering over 132 topics, including defensive driving, vehicle maintenance, and law enforcement compliance. Tailored for younger audiences, these videos are accessible through popular social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp, ensuring maximum reach and engagement.

“FleetMax Africa identified a niche in the vulnerable novice driver group,” says Ashref Ismail, CEO of FleetMax Africa. “Suzuki’s target audience aligns perfectly with our corporate social responsibility focus: first-time and entry-level buyers of new and used cars.”

This innovative approach bridges the gap between education and accessibility, offering young drivers essential tools to navigate the road safely. By combining the expertise of FleetMax Africa with Suzuki’s extensive reach, this partnership aims to decrease the country’s worrying accident rates.

Driving South Africa forward

Suzuki Auto South Africa isn’t just selling vehicles; it’s creating opportunities and solutions. Whether by helping small businesses get their goods to market or empowering novice drivers with life-saving knowledge, Suzuki is committed to driving positive change.

The combination of practical, affordable vehicles like the Super Carry and Eeco Van with forward-thinking initiatives such as DriveSMART with Suzuki showcases the brand’s holistic approach to meeting South Africa’s transport needs. Suzuki isn’t just about getting people on the road; it’s about ensuring they stay safe and thrive once they’re there.
