Scania wows truckers in Vegas

As you read this article, MINExpo 2021 – the world’s largest mining event – is taking place in Las Vegas. There are numerous incredible trucks on display but one of them really caught our eye. It’s Scania’s 8×4 Heavy Tipper, and it is designed to meet the toughest demands in mining operations.

According to Sven-Erik Gustafsson, head of Scania Mining, this beast of a truck offers an efficient transport solution with lower environmental impact and cost per tonne compared to traditional solutions. “We have the tools to prove that mining operations are among those industries where a shift towards sustainable solutions is beneficial for all parties involved. Increased focus on the total operating economy will generate positive results also for aspects such as the carbon footprint. And there is no conflict between these ambitions,” he maintains.

The Heavy Tipper has a payload capacity of 40 tonnes with the 8×4 configuration (60 tonnes GVM). All Scania mining trucks can be powered by Euro 5 or 6 engines that run on up to 100% hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) or Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) type fuels, offering CO₂-reductions of up to 90%. There are also alternatives with LNG or CNG for natural or biogas propulsion.
