Electric chemistry: Iveco and Stellantis team up!
Some partnerships just click. Think fish and chips. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Laurel and Hardy. Federer and Nadal (when they were playing doubles, at least). Or Nando’s chicken and peri-peri sauce. These duos are each a reminder that, when the right forces come together, magic happens. Now, the commercial vehicle world has its own power couple…
Stellantis Pro One and Iveco have teamed up in a new long-term deal to produce and supply two fully-electric vans under the Iveco brand, aimed squarely at the European market. (Our illustration with this story is a vehicle rendering that we have created; it hasn’t been supplied by Iveco.) This is a 10-year commitment, with production kicking off in Stellantis factories in Italy, Poland, and France and the first vans expected to roll out by mid-2026.
These all-electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs) will fall into the mid-size and large van categories, with gross vehicle weights ranging from 2.8 to 4.25 tonnes – making them ideal for urban deliveries, regional logistics, and companies looking to electrify their fleets without compromising on load capacity. The new vans will join Iveco’s growing electric line-up, sitting alongside the existing eDaily – the brand’s well-known battery-powered workhorse built in Suzzara and electrified in Brescia, Italy.
While the vehicles themselves will be built by Stellantis Pro One – the division of Stellantis N.V. dedicated to commercial vehicles – they’ll be sold and serviced through Iveco’s official European network, including the UK. In short, Stellantis brings the tech muscle, Iveco brings the sales and service savvy. It’s the Lennon-McCartney of the transport world: one writes the melody, the other adds the harmony.
Luca Sra, president of the Truck Business Unit at Iveco Group, is optimistic about what the partnership will deliver: “We are excited to add two innovative and versatile battery-electric vans to our LCV line-up, boosting our competitiveness in the van segment. By choosing to partner with Stellantis Pro One, we are leveraging the extensive know-how and strong presence in Italy and Europe that historically tie our companies. I am confident that this winning collaboration will benefit our European customers, in particular for the success of their last-mile logistics businesses.”
Jean Philippe Imparato, chief operating officer of Stellantis for Enlarged Europe, is equally enthusiastic. “We are proud to collaborate with an Italian and world-leading company like Iveco, and this happened because we are European LCV market leaders, thanks to our operational excellence, the quality of our products, and our ability to develop battery drive technology, which helps reduce polluting emissions and protect the environment,” he says.
It’s not the first time that we’ve seen rivals in the vehicle industry join forces. Just one example (with which we’re very familiar in South Africa) is the ongoing collaboration between Volkswagen and Ford that, by all accounts, appears to be going very well. Stellantis itself was borne out of a mega-merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the PSA Group, combining 14 brands (including Citroën, Jeep, Peugeot, Opel, Ram, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo).
This new alliance between Stellantis Pro One and Iveco has similar potential. It combines legacy, innovation, and a clear goal: to put more clean-running, battery-powered vans on European roads. And if it works as well as it promises, we might just be looking at a new iconic duo in transport that – one day – will also sell its electric vans in South Africa.
